With reference to my Despatch No. 456 of
the 28th. instant forwarding the new Waterworks Ordinance,
No 16 of 1903, which provides for a system of rider-mains, I
have the honour to transmit herewith Indents for one Assistant
Engineer and one Overseer for the superintendence of the
construction of the new mains. I have to request that you will
be so good as to forward them to the Crown Agents with the
usual instructions, informing them at the same time that the
services of these Officers will not be required until the
order for wrought-iron piping 2c., which was forwarded to them
under cover of the Colonial Secretary's letter No. 6968/1903
of the 5th. instant, is nearing completion. They should there-
fore time the arrival of the Assistant Engineer in the Colony
about 1 month or 6 weeks before that of the stock of pipes
and fittings therein referred to, and of the Overseer about
the same time as the materials themselves.
2.
The salaries and allowances of these
Officers are provided for in the estimate drawn up for the
rider-mains, and will therefore be refunded to the Goverment,
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE
COLONIES.
